The Stock Trade Calculator has three main functions. First, a Reward / Risk calculator that given an entry, stop and target price tells you what the ratio of the reward over the potential loss is. Usually this ratio should be greater than 3.
Next, the Quantity function of the calculator allows you to figure out how many shares to purchase given an entry, stop price and a maximum dollar amount you are willing to risk. For example, if you are only willing to lose $50 in a trade enter 50 in the $Risk field. Now enter the entry price and the stop price. The calculator returns the number of shares to buy for that amount of risk.
The third function is the entry price calculator for a given Reward / Risk, stop and target prices. Lets say that you want to trade a stock and have identified support and resistance levels. Enter a stop price just below support and a target price just below resistance. It is recommended that you enter 3 or higher in the R/R field. The calculator returns the price you should enter the trade for a the given R/R. You can now set an alert on your trading platform at the given entry price and be ready to pounce once you are alerted.
